Chevy Chase |
Chevy Chase is a prosperous and cosmopolitan suburb on the northwestern border of the District of Columbia and just south of Bethesda, a major commercial center. It has shady, tree-lined streets, trails for biking and roller blading, grassy public parks with tennis courts, a community center with a basketball court and ping pong tables, and many cultural events. Nearby are movie houses, theaters, small shops, and world-class department stores. Public transportation is easily accessible. Many foreign diplomats and international civil servants live in the area, as do their American counterparts. Local amenities reflect this diversity: dozens of restaurants in Bethesda serve every imaginable type of cuisine. |
Washington, DC |
Our house is about 1
mile from the DC border, and about 4 miles from the tourist areas in the center of
Washington. The city is one of the most beautiful in the world (despite being very
hot in July and August) and is full of historic and cultural attractions.
A public bus passes our house every half hour on the way to the Bethesda Metro Stop on the Red Line of Washington's subway system. "The Metro," as the subway is called, is an excellent facility that provides inexpensive ($1-2) trips downtown in 15-20 minutes. The subway trains are frequent, clean, and reliable. |
In Addition |
The house is only a short walk (2 blocks) from a grocery store, a hardware store, two pharmacies, etc. It is also 2 blocks from a large public swimming pool. A good regional library, dozens of restaurants and other shops, and many other attractions are just a few blocks farther away. Two cars can be included in the exchange. |
